5 Signs it is Time to Change Your Blog Hosting Service

We see two questions about WordPress hosting come up time and time again in blogging groups. They are simply:

  1. What hosting company is good for [X] monthly page views?
  2. When should I consider upgrading my blog's server?

In our opinion, the first question is far easier to answer than the second.

We're big proponents of Managed WordPress hosting services as they are generally responsible for a wide range of activities all around guaranteeing uptime of your site. Some premium hosts even have development time baked in for extra assistance beyond uptime concerns and are priced accordingly.

My present Managed WordPress host for all my sites, including This Week in Blogging, is BigScoots, and my highest trafficked site has flirted with 300,000 monthly page views in the past without any noticeable slowdowns, downtime, or other negative effects. Whenever we have an issue pop up, typically around plugin updates creating compatibility issues, we submit a ticket in their support system and they jump on it almost immediately.

So in this respect, the question of where to host when you're ready to upgrade is easy. But the question of when you should upgrade your blogging host is not clear cut.

In this one, we wanted to highlight five common scenarios bloggers run into that may be a sign it is time to upgrade your server!

RYDE Review – Protecting Our Image Copyrights With Ease

Published by Jeremy. Last Updated on December 18, 2022.

Update: RYDE was recently acquired and rebranded as VAAAM. Since then the service has switched to a model that requires a monthly fee for image tracking. While we would have liked to try this new service despite the high fee, the team at VAAAM has been unresponsive to our questions and therefore we have not been able to test the new set up. As such, please consider the below review out of date.

In the past, we have talked about protecting your image copyright with monitor tracking services like Copytrack. Unfortunately, as we have had some less than ideal experiences with that service we looked to others to help fill our needs.

RYDE (formerly KODAKOne) is one such entity that offers an image monitoring service using proprietary technology to catch when your photo copyrights are being violated on the internet. Then they reach out to infringers to invoice for damages and help you monetize your stolen work.

But perhaps the best part about this service is its ease of use- it is quite hands-off!

Disclaimer: We are affiliates of RYDE. By signing up for their service, we may receive a commission.

When Google rolls out just about anything, we've got to be paying attention in the blogging community, and Google Stories are certainly no exception.

We know that the initial reaction to Google Stories among bloggers and content creators was something like “oh, fantastic, another thing to worry about since I'm not already doing a million other things, and not already burnt out.”

However, the bloggers and content creators who have made the time to get better acquainted with Google Stories seem to have found out that it was time well spent. There's also something exciting about the idea of testing out the virality or reach of a brand new platform or method.

So yes, we do need to make time for wellness in 2021, but we also need to stay on top of the emerging trends that can pay serious dividends for our respective sites. It's a fine balance that we think all full-time bloggers and content creators are regularly tightrope walking.

To take some of the stress and unknown from Google Stories, we've invited Victoria Yore to chat with us today, and enlighten us.

Victoria runs a multitude of successful websites across a variety of niches and industries, and has a following over a million on social media across her platforms. She's an expert on creating digital content, and is known for her aptitude with Pinterest, TikTok, SEO, and now, of course, Google Stories. If you want to follow-up with her directly after reading this interview for any reason, you can reach her at [email protected].

When it comes to showing related posts on your WordPress blog, a number of plugins exist that will use proprietary logic in order to display relevant posts at the end of any given article.

Generally speaking, I don't like these. First off is that the level of control you have over what posts are shown varies considerably, and second off those that have built-in display logic can be, at times, slow. The latter may be partly due to bloated scripts, but also because it takes time for the plugin's algorithm to parse your content and return recommended posts.

So what can you do if you want to fix one (or both) of these issues? Well, the way we show relevant content on our sites without interrupting our load times is with a combination of two plugins- WP Show Posts and Ad Inserter.

Today, I wanted to provide a walkthrough of how we do it.

Wellness Tips for Bloggers in 2023

There's something about a profession that beckons you to spend countless hours stationary in front of a screen that doesn't exactly scream wellness. That being said, there's plenty of ways that we can be proactive about our health in the coming year. And, as you might imagine, an article on wellness tips for bloggers in 2023 is going to cover precisely that.

While it's true that blogging and content creation in general does lend itself to cliches about a sedentary existence, it's also true that it's a career that affords people a tremendous amount of flexibility. In many cases, deadlines are self-imposed, and that means you can also talk to the boss (ie. you) when it's clear that you need a break or a breather.

More than anything else with wellness, it's about intentionally creating a rhythm and schedule that prioritizes your health. It's actually much easier than you'd think it would be, and it's not about changing everything all at once. Rather, it's about slowly but surely incorporating a few wellness strategies and seeing what works for you.

Blogger burnout is a thing, that's for sure, but you don't have to be its next victim. So what as bloggers can we do?
